The European Home Care packaging development team exists of 10 persons in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands working on Fabric Wash, Fabric Softener and Machine Dish packaging of brands like Omo, Robijn and Sun.

Technology Expertise:
He/she develops and maintains packaging technology knowledge in Fabrics Wash, Fabric Softener and/or Machine Dish, within specific technology areas (e.g., powder cartons, flexibles, rigid plastics, etc). He/she develops and maintains basic appreciation of all other Fabrics/Machine Dish-relevant packaging technologies outside his/her expertise area, and maintains working knowledge of 2D design and prototyping, and understanding of 3D design and prototyping as well.
Working with Suppliers:
Define and investigates potential new packaging suppliers, provides technical input for choice of suppliers, supports supplier approval process. Deals with selected suppliers on all aspects of project work for specified projects, assists briefing, approving samples, agreeing specifications, resolving issues, etc with the assistance of line manager.
Design and Development:
Follows complete development programme for a project, i.e.; interprets requirements of all functions to the design process and agrees final packaging design.
Produces 2D drawings and prototypes, procures 3D prototypes and tests samples in laboratory, develops and writes specifications (Interspecs) and approval process. The specialist can contribute to multidisciplinary projects when required.
Supporting the Supply Chain:
Assists in Management of technical programmes for alternative material sourcing, helps in assessment of problems of machine to material interface, also evaluates agreed "what-ifs" (cost, time, etc) and support when appropriate line trials in factory and transit trials, assists the technical hand-over with Sourcing Units.
Supporting the innovation centres and Local Companies:
Provides information on current and potential packs as requested and agrees final choice, and manage request on Essential requirement dossiers on his/her packaging portfolio.
Market Intelligence:
Collaborate to generate consumer, customer insights, participate to the packaging competitor monitoring programme.
A certain amount of travelling within Europe is necessary for the job (sourcing factories, material suppliers, etc) – average probably one day per week.

Technical education, preferably mechanical engineering or industrial packaging development;
Qualifications HBO, NVC, IPO specialist packaging development;
Experience in the Development function or/and factory;
Additional experience in either Packaging or/and consumer testing environment is desirable;
Ability to work in a small close-knit team, but with the drive and ability to control own work programme and make own decisions when required;
Ability to communicate effectively within RTC and also across Fabric Cleaners, Fabrics Softeners and MDW Category and supplier and factory network;
In particular the ability to communicate packaging opportunities and impacts to non-packaging people;
Commitment to see jobs through to a successful conclusion;
Good spoken and written Dutch/English.
