The Group Technical Team at our Global Headquarters in Surrey requires four exceptional materials specialists across the following fields; Glass, Cans, Printing and Decoration (inc. Labeling), and Corrugated / Carton Board. Each incumbent will play a key global role in optimizing SABMiller’s Group capability and developing long-range Group strategy within and across each packaging discipline.
The Group Packaging Development Manager will provide a strategically focused service to Group Technical and the broader SABMiller Packaging, Marketing and Commercial teams, providing leadership for:
- Conceptual design and development and the identification of future innovation opportunities and concepts.
- Determination of container/materials technology research and innovation strategies and implementation
- Proactive management of the Global supply risk through leadership and participation in the identification and development of functionally competent container/materials manufacturing performance and quality standards and the development of Group accreditation procedures and templates and Supply Chain impact assessment tools.
- Active Partnering and alignment with Procurement in engaging the Industry and supply base
The incumbent will interface both internally and externally with a broad global spectrum of key stakeholders, customers and research partners. The position focuses on establishing and leveraging SABMiller’s packaging research, innovation and design to more effectively position the Group as a “first to market” player.

Relevant Degree / Technical Qualification in Engineering; General Science; Materials Science or similar with a post graduate qualification in Materials Science or Packaging Materials Technology (at MSc level) preferred.
- Significant design, manufacture and application experience in at least one of the specialist areas: Glass, Cans, Printing and Decoration (inc. Labeling), and/or Corrugated / Carton Board
- Experience within the FMCG / Beverage / Retail industry is preferred
- Demonstrated working knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements, International Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) practices, International Consumer Safety Standards and practices and Quality Management Principles
- The incumbent must combine strong interpersonal and influencing skills with a keen general business and commercial knowledge

SABMiller offers a highly competitive salary combined with a generous benefits package; the basic salary could range from £60,000 to £75,000 dependent on the individual hired.
